ADAMA chemicals plant in southern Israel hit by Iranian missile or debris
A chemical plant in southern Israel, owned by ADAMA, was reportedly hit by either an Iranian missile or debris from an intercepted missile on Sunday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident at the Makhteshim plant, but it signifies a direct industrial target in the escalating conflict.
On March 29, 2026, an Iranian missile struck the ADAMA chemical plant located in the Ne'ot Hovav industrial zone near Beersheba in southern Israel. ADAMA, a subsidiary of China's Syngenta Group that produces crop protection chemicals including insecticides and herbicides, confirmed its facility was hit during Iran's sixth missile attack wave of the day. The strike caused a significant fire at the plant after a missile fragment ignited a pesticide tank, producing thick black smoke and flames visible from surrounding areas.
The incident prompted immediate emergency response with firefighters working to contain the blaze and seal chemical tanks to prevent hazardous material leaks. Authorities established a security cordon and conducted evacuations in the surrounding area as a precautionary measure. Israel's Environmental Protection Ministry conducted air quality assessments and later cleared the area for normal operations, confirming there was no public danger from chemical exposure.
While no injuries or fatalities occurred at the ADAMA plant itself, broader Iranian missile attacks on the same day caused casualties elsewhere. At least 31 people were injured in Beersheba, mostly with light wounds from debris, shockwaves, and anxiety-related issues. The attacks also damaged approximately 100 homes and other infrastructure including Turner Stadium in the area.
This attack occurred within the context of the ongoing 'Twelve-Day War' between Israel and Iran, which began with Israel's Operation Rising Lion targeting Iranian nuclear and missile sites. Iranian forces claimed the strike on the chemical plant was retaliation for Israeli attacks on Iranian industrial facilities. The ADAMA incident represented a direct industrial target in the escalating conflict, though Israeli defenses intercepted many of the approximately 150 ballistic missiles launched in waves that day, with some penetrating to cause limited damage.
