Ex-gas station supervisor nabbed for alleged P57-M heist
Police have apprehended a former supervisor of a gas station located on Taft Avenue, Manila, in connection with the alleged robbery of a staggering P57 million in company earnings. The arrest concludes a search for the individual accused of the massive heist.
A former gas station supervisor on Taft Avenue in Manila was arrested by the Manila Police District for allegedly stealing P57 million in company earnings through qualified theft and falsification of documents. The suspect, who began working at the gas station in March 2024, was apprehended in front of a condominium in Paranaque after her former employer filed a complaint. Discrepancies in financial reports emerged after about a year when a roving auditor uncovered irregularities, including instances where she reportedly deposited only P200,000 out of P800,000 daily sales while falsifying the records.
Colleagues noticed her lavish lifestyleâincluding expensive bags, a car, and condo livingâwhich was inconsistent with her P21,000âP22,000 monthly salary, as evidenced from her social media posts. The suspect ignored office summonses, quit her job, and prompted a formal complaint when the owner investigated the missing funds. She faces prior theft charges from another gas station job and is currently charged with 60 counts of qualified theft (potentially rising to over 100) plus over 300 counts of falsification of documents.
The arrest concluded a search for the individual accused of the massive heist. The suspect denies the allegations and remains in police custody. The case highlights internal control vulnerabilities in cash-intensive businesses like gas stations and demonstrates how lifestyle inconsistencies can trigger investigations into financial irregularities.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for businesses regarding the importance of robust auditing systems and regular financial oversight, particularly in industries handling large daily cash transactions. The Manila Police District successfully closed the case after following leads from the employer's complaint and tracking the suspect's movements, leading to her apprehension in Paranaque.
