Iran's UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani announced that at least 1,332 Iranian civilians have been killed and thousands more injured in the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States. This statement highlights the human toll of the intensifying hostilities.

Iran's UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani reported on March 6, 2026, that at least 1,332 Iranian civilians have been killed in the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States, with thousands more injured. Iravani made the statement to reporters at UN headquarters in New York, accusing the US and Israel of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure like schools, hospitals, and residential areas, labeling these acts as "war crimes and crimes against humanity." Specific casualties include over 180 children killed, damage to more than 20 schools, attacks on 13 healthcare facilities, and the deaths of over 18 female athletes with around 100 injured in sports facilities.

The conflict began with the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in early airstrikes, which marked the start of the 2026 Iran war. Iravani claimed Iran's responses target only military objectives and are "lawful, necessary, and proportionate" under Article 51 of the UN Charter. However, he suggested some non-military strikes might result from US defense systems intercepting Iranian missiles, diverting them from targets.

US President Donald Trump had demanded Iran's "unconditional surrender" and a say in selecting a new leader following Khamenei's death, which Iravani rejected as interference in Iran's internal affairs. The US and Israel deny targeting civilians, asserting the opposite. US investigators suspect US forces may have hit an Iranian girls' school on March 1, killing scores of children, but no final conclusion has been reached.

The casualty figures come amid escalating airstrikes on Iranian cities, with Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reporting 1,097 civilian deaths and over 5,000 injuries in the first five days of conflict. Other sources provide varying estimates, with Iranian Red Crescent reporting 201 civilian deaths on the first day and over 600 by March 3. The conflict has expanded to include Iranian retaliatory strikes against US bases, Israel, and Gulf states, causing additional casualties on all sides.
