Kevin Spacey accused of sexual assaults dating back decades in UK civil lawsuits
Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey is facing three new civil lawsuits in London, alleging sexual assaults that span decades. The claimants are seeking to include accusations from seven other individuals, further intensifying the legal challenges against the actor who has consistently denied any sexual misconduct.
Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey is facing three new civil lawsuits in London's High Court alleging sexual assaults dating back decades, with a provisional trial date set for October 12, 2026. The cases involve three British men who accuse Spacey of sexual misconduct during his tenure as artistic director of London's Old Vic Theatre between 2000 and 2013. The claimants include two anonymous individuals identified only by initials and actor Ruari Cannon, who waived his anonymity in the Channel 4 documentary 'Spacey Unmasked' and alleges Spacey groped him at a 2013 theater party.
The allegations span different time periods: one claimant (LNP) alleges about 12 incidents of assault between 2000-2005, another (GHI) claims psychiatric damage and financial loss from a 2008 workshop encounter, and Ruari Cannon alleges the 2013 incident. Two of the claimants were previously involved in Spacey's 2023 criminal trial where he was acquitted of charges from four men. The claimants' lawyer, Elizabeth-Anne Gumbel, is advocating for the cases to be consolidated to avoid repeated testimony from the alleged victims.
Spacey, now 66, has consistently denied all allegations and formally contested two of the three lawsuits while not yet responding to the third. He did not attend the recent High Court hearing where the provisional trial date was set. The court has proposed either merging the cases or hearing them consecutively, though judges have not finalized this arrangement. These civil proceedings follow Spacey's 2023 acquittal in a UK criminal trial and represent ongoing legal challenges in the UK.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Spacey revealed that his legal issues have left him effectively homeless, stating the financial and personal toll of the ongoing cases. The actor was previously cleared in a UK criminal trial and one civil case. The claimants are seeking to include accusations from seven other individuals, which would further intensify the legal challenges against Spacey if permitted by the court. The cases highlight the continuing fallout from allegations against Spacey that first emerged in 2017 and led to his removal from the Netflix series 'House of Cards' and other projects.
