Veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez shared family photos from her anniversary celebration, a move seen as addressing persistent rumors of separation between her son, Rep. Arjo Atayde, and daughter-in-law, Maine Mendoza.
Separation rumors between Arjo Atayde and Maine Mendoza surfaced in March 2026 after Maine was noticeably absent from the Atayde family's March 23, 2026 celebrations for Art Atayde's birthday and Ria Atayde's birthday. The absence was highlighted in a now-deleted TikTok video by Bayani Agbayani that showed Arjo, his mother Sylvia Sanchez, sister Ria Atayde, and other family members celebrating together without Maine. This sparked widespread speculation online about a possible marital rift between the couple who married on July 28, 2023 in Baguio City.
Official representatives quickly denied the separation rumors, with a family representative stating the claims were "not true" and explaining that Maine was "not feeling well" due to illness ("May sakit. Uso 'di ba"). Public relations representative Chuck Gomez also confirmed the couple remains together. The rumors gained traction partly because Maine did not receive public birthday greetings from the Atayde family on her March 3 birthday, though this was later attributed to the family taking a social media break according to Ria Atayde.
In response to the circulating rumors, veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez, Arjo's mother, posted family photos from the March 23 celebration on her social media accounts. These photos were widely interpreted as a subtle way to address and counter the separation speculation by showcasing family unity. The photos featured Arjo with his parents and sister, presenting a picture of normalcy amid the rumors.
Further debunking the separation claims, Maine Mendoza was later spotted attending another Atayde family celebration after the initial rumors surfaced. The couple had also appeared together publicly as recently as February 2026 at events like Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna's vow renewal ceremony, where Maine shared affectionate photos with Arjo. Additionally, Maine had defended Arjo in late 2025 against allegations involving his family's flood-control contracts, showing continued support for her husband despite the controversies.
