Tiger Woods arrested, charged with DUI after Florida crash
Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with DUI after a rollover crash in Florida. Despite passing a breathalyzer test, authorities observed signs of impairment following the incident where his vehicle clipped a truck. This adds to his previous DUI arrest in 2017.
Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on March 27, 2026, on suspicion of DUI following a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when Woods was driving his Land Rover at high speed on a two-lane residential road with a 30 mph speed limit. He attempted to pass a truck towing a pressure cleaner trailer, clipped the trailer, and his SUV flipped onto its side before sliding to a stop. Woods exited the vehicle unaided, and no injuries were reported to him or the other driver involved in the collision.
According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, deputies observed signs of impairment including lethargy and visual impairment. While Woods passed a breathalyzer test showing 0.00 blood alcohol content, he refused to submit to a urine or blood test, leading to his arrest under Florida's DUI laws. He faces misdemeanor charges including DUI involving property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful chemical test. Authorities suspect the impairment may have been related to medication or drugs rather than alcohol, similar to his 2017 DUI arrest involving painkillers and sleep aids.
Woods was taken to Martin County Jail where he was held for the mandatory minimum 8 hours required for DUI suspects in Florida before bonding out later that evening. The arrest comes as Woods was recovering from multiple recent injuries including an Achilles rupture in March 2025 and his seventh back surgery in September 2025, which caused him to miss most of the 2025 golf season. His last tournament appearance was at the 2024 British Open.
Despite the charges, legal experts note that Woods remains eligible to travel and potentially participate in the 2026 Masters tournament if physically able, though the timing raises questions about his participation just weeks before the event. As of the latest reports, there has been no official statement from Woods or his representatives regarding the incident. This marks Woods' second DUI-related arrest, following his 2017 incident in Jupiter, Florida, where he was found asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes with multiple prescription drugs in his system.
