US President Donald Trump escalated his demands, calling for Iran's 'unconditional surrender' to end the ongoing hostilities, while also promising economic aid if Tehran complies. The White House, however, later clarified that US war aims remain focused on Iran’s missile program and naval forces.

On March 6, 2026, US President Donald Trump escalated demands in the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran, calling for Iran's 'unconditional surrender' as the only acceptable condition to end hostilities. Trump made this declaration through a Truth Social post and subsequent interviews, stating 'There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!' The conflict, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, had entered its seventh day with heavy US-Israeli strikes targeting Iran's military infrastructure, leadership, and nuclear facilities.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that unconditional surrender would occur when President Trump determines Iran no longer poses a threat to the United States and the goals of Operation Epic Fury have been fully realized. She explained this could mean either formal surrender or Iran becoming unable to continue fighting. Trump also demanded involvement in selecting Iran's next leadership, dismissing Ayatollah Khamenei's son as a 'lightweight' and calling for 'a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s)' who would treat the US and Israel fairly.

Trump promised economic reconstruction assistance if Iran complied, stating the US and allies would 'work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before' under a 'MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN' initiative. He warned Iranian Revolutionary Guard, military, and police forces to lay down arms for immunity or face 'guaranteed death.' The president stated he had 'no time limits' on the conflict's duration, though initial White House estimates suggested a 4-to-6 week campaign.

Iran responded through its Foreign Minister, who stated readiness for a ground invasion and continued missile and drone strikes against Israel and Gulf states. The conflict has caused significant economic disruption, with Brent crude oil prices surpassing $88 per barrel, the highest since April 2024. This marked Trump's second demand for unconditional surrender from Iran, having made similar calls during a 12-day Israel-Iran war in 2025 that ended with a ceasefire he helped broker.
