US government accused of major 'cover-up' over Trump sex abuse claims
Democrats have launched a scathing attack, accusing the Trump administration of the “largest government cover-up in modern history” regarding alleged sex abuse claims against President Trump. This comes after reports indicate documents related to a minor's 2019 assault complaint were reportedly withheld from the 'Epstein Files' release.
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have accused the Department of Justice of illegally withholding FBI documents related to a woman's 2019 sexual assault complaint against President Trump. According to the complaint, the woman alleges she was sexually assaulted by Trump between 1983 and 1985 when she was between 13 and 15 years old, after Jeffrey Epstein allegedly introduced them. She came forward to law enforcement in July 2019, days after Epstein's arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.
The missing files include approximately 50 pages of FBI interview notes and witness materials from conversations with the woman. An FBI index prepared for the Ghislaine Maxwell trial indicates the FBI interviewed her four times in 2019, but only one meeting report appears in the publicly released database. The detailed follow-up interview memos from August and October 2019 are missing from the released Epstein files.
House Oversight Committee ranking Democrat Robert Garcia stated that he reviewed unredacted evidence at the DOJ and confirmed that "DOJ appears to have illegally withheld FBI interviews with this survivor." Democrats characterized the alleged withholding as "the largest government cover-up in modern history" and pledged to open a parallel investigation demanding the missing records be submitted to Congress.
This disclosure came despite Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche sending a letter to Congress claiming no records were withheld "on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity." Trump has denied all allegations and claimed the Epstein Files release cleared him of wrongdoing. The controversy centers on whether the DOJ properly complied with congressional requests for documents related to the Epstein case and whether political considerations influenced what was released to the public.
