
Cops identify suspect in Cavite hazing death
A 19-year-old college student tragically died in Cavite, suspected to be from hazing rites. Police have identified one of the alleged suspects involved in the incident.
A 19-year-old maritime student from General Trias City, Cavite, died on March 1, 2026, from injuries suspected to be from hazing. The victim was brought unconscious to General Trias Medical Hospital in Barangay Manggahan around 2 p.m. by two unidentified men who claimed it was a hit-and-run accident, then fled with the driver after leaving him behind. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m. The body showed numerous bruises, particularly on the thighs, with the nature and pattern of injuries raising suspicion of hazing.
Police from General Trias City Police and PRO-4A (Police Regional Office 4A) are investigating the case as hazing-related murder. Authorities have identified one suspect involved in the incident, though no name has been publicly disclosed. The investigation is ongoing to fully identify the victim, locate the three individuals involved, and make arrests.
The victim was a first-year college student, and the incident occurred in Cavite province. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the death, including the possibility that the victim underwent hazing rites. The case has been classified as murder due to the suspicious nature of the injuries.
As of March 2-3, 2026, no further arrests have been made, and the victim's full identity has not been publicly confirmed. Authorities continue to follow up on leads to apprehend all individuals involved in what appears to be another tragic hazing-related death in the Philippines, following previous high-profile cases like the 2023 Adamson University hazing death of John Matthew Salilig.
