LTO summons motorist who pulled out gun in Taytay road rage
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned a motorist who allegedly brandished a gun during a traffic altercation in Taytay, Rizal, over the weekend. This incident has sparked public outrage and a swift response from authorities.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned a pick-up truck driver involved in a road rage incident that occurred on March 29, 2026, along Manila East Road in Taytay, Rizal. According to the Taytay Municipal Police Station report, the driver allegedly initiated the altercation by pelting another vehicle with a plastic bottle and blocking its path. The driver then confronted the other vehicle's passengers with inappropriate remarks and reportedly brandished a firearm during the confrontation.
The LTO responded by issuing a show cause order (SCO) against the pick-up truck driver. Both the motorist and the registered owner of the vehicle were ordered to submit a sworn comment or explanation with supporting documents, detailing why the driver's license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. The agency has already taken provisional measures, including placing the pick-up truck under an LTO alarm and preventively suspending the driver's license for 90 days.
The LTO scheduled a hearing for April 8, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) office. The agency warned that failure to appear at the hearing or submit the required explanation would result in waiving the right to be heard, and the case would be resolved based on available evidence.
This incident has sparked public outrage and prompted swift action from transportation authorities, highlighting concerns about road safety and the escalation of traffic disputes into potentially dangerous confrontations involving weapons. The LTO's response demonstrates their commitment to addressing road rage incidents and ensuring that drivers who engage in such behavior face appropriate consequences for their actions.
