The 27-year-old Slovenian basketball star made the announcement through a statement to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, stating: "I love my daughters more than anything and I've been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn't been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement."
The couple, who began dating in 2016 after meeting as 12-year-olds in Slovenia, got engaged on July 7, 2023, and share two daughters: Gabriela (born November 30, 2023) and Olivia (born December 4, 2025). Goltes, a model and influencer, moved back to Slovenia with their children in May 2025. Tensions reportedly escalated in December 2025 when Doncic traveled to Slovenia for Olivia's birth and attempted to bring Gabriela back to the U.S., leading to police involvement after Goltes called authorities, though no criminal issues were found.
Legal proceedings have begun, with Goltes filing a petition in California for child support and attorney's fees, though notably not seeking custody arrangements. The petition was filed just before Doncic's public announcement of the separation. This development comes amid Doncic's transition to the Los Angeles Lakers following his February 2025 trade from the Dallas Mavericks and subsequent three-year, $165 million contract extension.
The breakup marks the end of a nearly decade-long relationship that began during Doncic's rise to NBA stardom. Goltes has reportedly removed couple photos from her Instagram account following the separation announcement. As of the latest reports, Doncic is actively fighting for custody arrangements that would allow his daughters to spend time with him in the United States during the basketball season, prioritizing their happiness and his ability to maintain a relationship with them despite the geographical challenges created by his NBA career and their mother's residence in Slovenia.
